| Micra's initial attraction is its cheeky styling. Its enduring appeal is that it's easy to drive, cheap to run, reliable and well equipped. But it's tight on rear headroom and luggage space. |

| Superminis don't get much better than this Micra. Nippy and economical, it offers a good choice of eager, refined petrol and diesel engines that return from just under 50mpg to over 60mpg. It's happiest at average speeds, where lots of grip and light steering make it agile and fun to drive. Refinement levels are impressive for a small car; it's surprisingly quiet even at motorway speeds. The front occupants have lots of space, with an excellent driving position, good all-round vision and controls that fall easily to hand. Rear seat passengers don't do as well, as headroom is tight for adults taller heads can touch the roof. The rear seat slides forward, which boosts boot space but reduces available knee room. There's good standard equipment, with ABS and CD player on basic models. Micra's build quality shines through - it's a tough but friendly and frugal hatchback for the long-term owner. |
